The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is giving anglers a great reason to get outdoors this June! Nearly 18,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout and 1,000 tiger trout will be released across several popular fishing spots in Southeast Idaho. Whether you're a seasoned fly fisher or looking for a family-friendly place to wet a line, there's something for everyone.

Here’s a quick look at where the fish are going—and why you should make plans to visit:

Top Stocking Locations This June

Bannock Reservoir – 3,000 Rainbow Trout
Located in Pocatello’s Portneuf Wellness Complex, this six-acre pond is surrounded by amenities like playgrounds, soccer fields, basketball courts, and an amphitheater. Multiple docks make for easy fishing access. Bring the whole family and spend the day!

Bear River below Oneida Dam – 2,000 Rainbow Trout
Oneida Narrows offers the longest stretch of public access along the Bear River. Camp at Red Point Campground and enjoy a full weekend of scenic fishing. This is a beautiful place to unwind while chasing some hungry trout.

Edson Fichter Pond – 1,425 Rainbow Trout
Just minutes from downtown Pocatello, this community favorite has docks, trails, and even a special “puppy pond” for your dog to cool off. Mark your calendar for Free Fishing Day on Saturday, June 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — no license needed!

Montpelier Reservoir – 1,000 Tiger Trout
Ever caught a tiger trout? These aggressive fighters are a hybrid between a brown and brook trout. Located east of Montpelier at 6,500 feet elevation, this peaceful reservoir is perfect for a quiet day on the water.

Sheep Creek Reservoir – 1,000 Tiger Trout
More tiger trout are headed to this 23-acre reservoir southeast of Montpelier. It’s a great spot to escape the crowds and enjoy some quality fishing in a rustic setting.

Upper Kelly Park Pond – 250 Rainbow Trout
Tucked inside Arthur Kelly Park in Soda Springs, this little gem is ideal for families and new anglers. A short, easy ¼-mile trail leads to the pond, and the peaceful surroundings make it a great summer escape.
